How many weight watcher points do you burn in Zumba?

If you are on weight watchers and you want to know how many points you burn with zumba, here is a formula for high activity exercise that may help you calculate your zumba workout into ww points:

weight x minutes x .0008077

So if I weigh 160 and I do zumba for 1 hour,
it's 160 x 60 x .0008077 = 7.75 pts!

This formula applies to any high intensity workout.

Thank you so much for the formula! I go to zumba 3 times a week at my YMCA and could never figure out the points. I am a life time member and it is important to stay active to keep the weight off which has been 40lbs. gone since August '07. We have an instructor who lost 80lbs. on WW and I can't wait to share this information with her this week!

I do Zumba at the Y also and this formula is a great tool!

Wow, that seems a bit high. I use a heart rate monitor and weigh more than 160 #'s and only burn about 650 calories. That is having my heart rate in the high intensity range.
How did you come up with that formula?

That is Weight Watchers formula for high intensity workouts, whether it's running for an hour or doing a high intensity zumba workout.

650 calories is a lot! When you think about it, that is half of your daily calories on weight watchers!I think i need to start going to zumba classes!

thanks! I knew someone must know about zumba points!

Love going to Zumba now that I know how many points its even better than I thought! Thanks

Thanks for this info.
I like this subject & I know a lot of people are interested in this.

As I understand it, according to the Weight Watchers' materials, one cannot use more than 4 points in any one day from any exercise. If you're interested I can look it up.
I too became a Zumba instructor after losing 30 pounds with Weight Watchers.

According to my ww instructer, you can get more than 4 activity points a day, it is just not recommended unless you use more points (eat more).

I love Zumba class. I have lost 16 pounds doing Zumba and Weight Watchers together. It is a great workout.

I used aerobics from the etools list for my Zumba work outs and it worked out to be the same number of points as the formula here - so it seems to be accurate!

Thanks!

Thanks sooo much for posting this formula!! I started back on Weight Watchers and am super excited to see how much my Zumba Classes help! It makes working/dancing my butt off even more rewarding!!

so question?
If I lose those ponits doing zumba can I eat that many more in a day or should I just eat my normal amount of points for a day.

Unknown said...

You should eat the points you used! The beauty of exercise!

Wow, it is really a nice thing to know that people are really committed to something if they love it.

I am so encouraged and delightful about all those committed zumba class students, hope to have some guts also so jump of to the beat and move those hips! Thanks

Forget the formula. Dance with full abandon and prove it really is so, so conservative.

I ordered the Zumba DVD's and have been doing both the Cardio and the Sculpt and Tone. Would I be able to burn the same amount of calories as if I were going to the class three times a week?

I have the Zumba DVD's would I be able to burn as many calories doing this as I would going to the class three times a week?

I think this is a good rough estimate, but I weigh 170 and it gives me 12 points for high intensity activities.

I just put in Zumba in the activity tracker, for high intensity...which it is, and it gave me 16 points!!

I'm a trainer, Zumba instructor, and a nutritionist. You would have to be obese for Zumba to earn such high ww points. You would also have to be very new to exercise for that type of result. The body responds to demands put upon it. Clearly, dance is intended to be fun and manageable, which is why participants keep doing it. A more realistic approach would be to run (at least 5 mph) 3-4 times per week, with varying intensity. If you're losing a lot of weight, it's your diet, not Zumba. I wish!

Zumba is wonderful and I hate to run and I will not do it, so therefore I do all of the dance exercises I can. Zumba gets my heart pumping and my body is sore all over afterwards. I also do WW. I believe that the points are correct because the activity tracker for WW actual has Jazzercise in its queue and if I do the high impact I get 12 points. Its ahs to be right. Wouldn't you think that Zumba is high intensity???

question - does it matter if you eat the extra points before or after your zumba class? I go to a class at 7:30 in the evening, so it's usually 9pm by the time I get home. I've always heard that you shouldn't eat that much late at night.

I've read you should always eat your calories before 7pm. I usually eat a light meal before I hit the gym at night. Dessert when I get back :)

Would you say this formula is still valid for Points Plus aka New WW?
Also, I know a lot of people who have lost a lot of weight via moderate cardio exercise and ww.
I think you get what you put into your activity/choice of workout.
I don't take zumba as a relaxing mid day waltz class. I walk out dripping.
I think you can have fun and still work out. Just saying ;)

This is the old formula, I am not sure how this changed with points plus.
