I really love Kim, from Gold's gym in Howell. I think she is amazing and has a lot of great energy to get the class going. She has a huge following, and has even done private Zumba parties in homes. I tend to compare every other Zumba instructor to her, and no one quite measures up. She has said not to give up, keep taking the classes and try different instructors so I am on a quest to find a Zumba teacher with the energy, moves and music equivalent to Kim's since I live in Long Island.
Zumba has finally made it to NYSC so I will be taking the classes there.
What should I wear for Zumba class?
Clothing for Zumba should be comfortable and shouldn't interfere with exercise movements. You will sweat in this class!
Layering tee shirts over tank tops is a good idea so you can remove layers if it gets too hot. Exercise pants could be cargo type pants or stretch pants.
Wear a good sports bra for support.
Wear thick socks that fit snug to prevent blisters.
Comfortable shoes are a must! Choose shoes that offer stability and cushion your movements. Avoid shoes with deep treads because they may restrict your movement. Cross trainers or dance specific sneakers are best.
Bring a towel and bottled water.
This was my second time taking the class. It was a great 60 minute workout, it kicked my butt actually!
The first 30 minutes incorporated traditional exercises, like jumping jacks, abdominal crunches, squats and pushups. The second half of the class was spent kicking and punching weighted, padded targets.
It was a total body workout and I'll take it again next week. I'm still hoping they get zumba soon. Come on NYSC!! What's the delay? Bathing suit season is coming, I need to lose a few pounds and tone, tone, tone!

I came across this video on Youtube. The instructor’s name is TANYA BEARDSLEY. Tanya is awesome!!! She is a Master Trainer for Zumba. I contacted her yesterday and I was happy to learn that she recently moved to New York City from Florida to spread Zumba in the Tri-state area.
Tanya is setting up several Master Classes as well as a few permanent classes. She also informed me that she is holding a workshop for my gym, NY Sports Club in April. Classes should be popping up at my gym soon. Looking forward to it!

I was a bit nervous about taking this class because I have two left feet. The class was packed with men and women of all ages. As a cardio hater, I have to say I am now hooked! It was so much fun It did not feel like a workout. It felt more like a night out clubbing without the alcohol! Zumba is the best fun I've had burning calories! Anyone can do this.
Zumba is a fun and effective widely spreading intense dance-aerobics workout with pulsating latin music like samba, salsa, cumbia music as well as hip-hop and pop music. It was created by Alberto "Beto" Perez, a celebrity fitness trainer and choreographer for International pop superstars.
Zumba targets areas such as glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and the heart! It is a mix of body sculpting movements and easy to follow dance steps, although you don't have to know how to dance to Zumba!
After the class, we spoke to the zumba instructor who btw had an amazing body (it was really hard not to notice) and we were surprised to learn she has three kids! She told us she lost 30 lbs doing zumba after her last child.
The first thing I did when I got home after the class was to google Zumba classes near my home. My gym does not offer zumba classes but there are a few gyms further away that do. I am actually now considering switching gyms just for Zumba.
